Here are some important points:
- There is an initial enrollment period 3 months before your 65th birthday during the month of your 65th birthday and 3 months after your 65th birthday) when you must sign up or you may have pay a penalty.
- After you join, Medicare will send you a card.
- Open enrollment runs each year from October 15 to December 7
- During the open enrollment period, anyone who has Medicare Parts A & B can:
- Change from Original Medicare to a private Medicare Advantage plan.
- Change from Medicare Advantage back to Original Medicare.
- Join, drop, or switch a Part D prescription drug plan.
- Switch Medicare Advantage plans.
- Your coverage will start January 1 of the following year.
