The article below discusses how the U.S. is not prepared to meet the housing needs of the large increase in adults aged 50 and older.
On the House: Housing needs of an aging society largely unavailable
It’s a good idea to take a hard look at your finances and to try and anticipate your future needs. Aging in Place and Aging in Community are good options.
Consider the following:
1) What will my income be once I retire?
2) How much will I need each month for housing, food, medicine and other expenses?
3) If your spending will be more than your income you will either have to downsize from your current housing to something cheaper or reduce your expenses (which is not easy to do).
4) Once you have decided on where you want to stay, what modifications would need to be made in your house to make it safer and more comfortable?
5) Are there resources in your community that you will be able to call on?
