Estate planning.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have a mansion, financial empire or lots of cool stuff for people to inherit. But, I do want to spare relatives and friends big hassles when the inevitable happens. I read an article in the New York Times (as usual \ud83d\ude42 ) and it got me thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Click the link below for the article:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"There\u2019s More to Estate Planning Than Just the Will\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/06\/your-money\/theres-more-to-estate-planning-than-the-will.html?emc=eta1\">There\u2019s More to Estate Planning Than Just the Will<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a checklist of some of the things from the above article that every adult should have, especially seniors:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make a will or living trust (Use a lawyer)<\/li>\n<li>Complete health care directives, e.g. a living will also sometimes called an advance directive and a health care power of attorney<\/li>\n<li>Power of attorney for someone to take care of your finances<\/li>\n<li>Compile lists of passwords to online accounts for everything<\/li>\n<li>Old tax documents<\/li>\n<li>Lists of school and employment history<\/li>\n<li>Lists of previous addresses<\/li>\n<li>Your medical history<\/li>\n<li>List companies and services that direct debit your bank account or charge your credit cards<\/li>\n<li>List all insurance polices<\/li>\n<li>Write down everything about your house, how e.g. how the sprinkler timer, lawn mower, etc. works, where keys are located.<\/li>\n<li>Write letters to those close to you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Wow! It seems impossible but there is a good way to get started. There is a <a title=\"Free Book of Everything that you can download\" href=\"http:\/\/www.erikdewey.com\/bigbookmkII.pdf\">free book<\/a> you can download that discusses \u00a0all of the information that\u00a0every senior should have stored in a safe place. It has a place for you to put all your important information.
